Seventeen of the pupils graduating from the LearningWorks YouthBuild application at the finish of June have something fairly unanticipated to insert to their resumes: cookbook author.
These pupils wrote about meals-relevant memories, developed recipes, prepared them in a industrial kitchen and styled their dishes for a qualified picture shoot. And quite a few of them offered and signed the publications at a June 9 launch bash at Broadturn Farm in Scarborough, an occasion that elevated $50,000 for the Portland-based mostly educational nonprofit.
The YouthBuild system for Mainers ages 16-24 consists of preparing for the Superior Faculty Equivalency Check (HiSET) and palms-on vocational education in trades these types of as building, electrical and culinary.
