Winnipeg’s La Pizza Week is back for a second year. It’s being put on by the same people who bring you La Burger Week and La Poutine Week so you know it’s going to be great. More than 100 local restaurants are taking part including a few of my favourites. My friend Joe Loschiavo at Pasquale’s (thanks for hosting my birthday dinner last weekend!) is serving up a new pie, Mama Sara Primavera, in honour of his mother who passed away recently. Over at Nicolino’s Restaurant, it’s the Grande Italia…capicollo, calabrese, genoa, prosciutto and salsicce all topped with asiago cheese, sun dried tomatoes and fresh basil. This year’s entry from Tommy’s Pizzeria is called Netflix & Chill which includes a Thai sweet chili base, smoked gouda and slow-roasted chicken thighs and crispy pork belly. LONGEVITY DIET
USC researchers have come up with a diet to help you live a long and healthy life. Their longevity diet favours fish and plant-based proteins but it also includes a good amount of carbs. Red and processed meats should be avoided. The diet also requires people to eat their meals within a certain time frame, allowing for periods of fasting. The USC team says it’s not only about what you eat but also about when you eat it.

OJ CEREAL
Tropicana has unveiled a new cereal meant to be eaten with orange juice instead of milk. The company is giving its Instagram followers a chance to win a box of Tropicana Crunch which is described as the first cereal made for OJ. I’m thinking it might also be the last but I guess we’ll see. Tropicana calls the honey almond cereal an unforgettable breakfast experience. Do you get the feeling the folks at Tropicana have a lot of time on their hands?

1 MILLION STEAKS
Congrats to Gayle Dudley at LongHorn Steakhouse in Columbus, Georgia who just grilled her one-millionth steak. She did it over 20 years. The chain has given Dudley a $5,000 cheque, a gold chef coat and the title of Grill Master Legend. LongHorn operates over 500 restaurants across the US.
NUGGETS SPILL ON HIGHWAY
A Pennsylvania highway had to be closed for several hours on Wednesday when an overturned tractor-trailer spilled its load of 40,000 pounds of chicken nuggets. Police say the truck’s driver lost control at about 6:30 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 309. No one was hurt and the cause of the incident is under investigation. The Sellersville Volunteer Fire Department posted photos from the crash scene on Facebook.

VERY OLD MCDONALD’S MEAL
A man in Illinois has found a McDonald’s hamburger and half-eaten fries from the 1950s in his bathroom wall. Rob Jones, who shared a photo of his discovery on Reddit, says he was renovating his home, which is close to one of the original McDonald’s locations that opened in 1959. As I said on my social media feeds the other day, usually, you have to go to McDonald’s to find a 60-year-old burger. Ba-dum…tiss! Just kidding, McDonald’s…your Big Mac is one of my favourite fast-food burgers.
